My Journey

Rob Clare — author, teacher, scuba diver, and dad
Growing up in the UK, Rob Clare was captivated by the underwater world. When he finally had the chance to scuba dive, he was instantly hooked. That passion turned into a mission: travel the world and explore exciting underwater places — the “extreme sport for nerds,” as some call it.
After becoming a scuba instructor and living in the Caribbean, Rob shifted focus and retrained as a teacher. He returned to the UK to study at the University of Central England, graduating with First Class Honours in Primary Education. Teaching felt like a natural step, and he’s loved being part of young learners’ journeys ever since. Rob moved to Australia in 2001 and now lives on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
As a teacher, school principal, and parent, Rob has seen firsthand the power of books to shape young minds. Bedtime stories became a treasured ritual with his kids — especially those that sparked curiosity, taught values, and encouraged big questions.
Following a stroke in 2015, Rob retired from full-time teaching and began writing for an educational publisher, working as a content writer and editor on the multi-award winning English Stars. He also launched a parenting blog for single dads called Just Dad It.
In 2024, he founded Rob Can Help – The Computer Tutor, a small business offering personal computer literacy tutoring, helping those in need of essential digital skills.
After years of story ideas — and a healthy dose of procrastination — Rob finally published his first children’s book, Mima’s Choices, in April 2025. It’s a story about decision-making, values, and navigating the ups and downs of growing up — themes close to his heart.
With a growing collection of book ideas and a renewed creative focus, Rob is just getting started. Stay tuned at Rob Clare Books — there’s plenty more to come.
